
MoM’s NYC PopUp space was made possible by Debra Whitefield and Barry Hanson. We were located on the UES of Manhattan 2011-2014. Over the course of 29 months we enjoyed visitors from around the world. Approximately 40,000 people used our space and we worked with local universities and high schools to offer service positions and internships for students. We are a new museum in NYC, first and only in the world – Museum Of Motherhood is a a vibrant portal in our UES community and reaching families from Brooklyn, Bronx, Westchester as well as Manhattan and global tourists. Open since Sept. 2011.
Daily tours include HERstorical perspectives with Birth Panels – Exploring Birth Practices Through The Ages from the 10th Century to the present, a Suffragette sitting room and Seneca Falls parlor, interactive story board & GRIEFitti Wall, Moms Of Rock exhibit, art by Feminist Mothers and Mother The Job that explores mother-work and ‘Global Motherhood’ Exhibits. The Museum also shows films and hosts performances. We have a play area with toys and Gymboree equipment, scholarly library, Story Time Under The Apple Tree, RealityWorks Infant Simulator Vests.
Exhibitions
We host monthly exhibitions from guest artists. Some of those have included: Deborah Putnoi – The Weight We Carry, Installation; Ronnie Kamarow – The Bad Day, The Phase, Good Behavior; Paula Rendino Zaentz – Show Mommy Two Fingers, Bite Mommy’s Fingers, Got You; Joan Linder courtesy Mixed Greens, Untitled; Norman Gardner – The Art Of Pregnancy and more. Permanent Collections include: Alexia Nye Jackson – Mother The Job, mixed media installation, including photo, film, collage; Ella Dreyfus – Pregnancy Untitled; Jo Jayson, Maura McGurk and more.
Touring Exhibits
We currently have two touring components: Mother The Job and MamaEconomics; that explores the historic value of women in capitalism. Loan protocol includes e-mailing the museum to initiate a dialogue.

Working in alliance with Working Mother Media, Minnesota Sate University, Marymount Manhattan College and Columbia Teachers College on data collection pertaining to working mothers, mothers with disabilities, mothers and psychosocial well being, single mothers, economically disadvantaged mothers, mothers in need, teen mothers, motherhood art and the ‘Art Of Motherhood’, mother studies, cross cultural comparative work, mothers in history, maternal activism, feminist mothering, the new culture of motherhood, social media, global motherhood, family relations & values, and more.
Educational Programs
We have access to a full library of Mom-Made Films, Theater, Lecturers and Educators including the ‘Motherhood Is Leadership Program’. Fees vary.
