WANTED- LIVE FREE/WORK MOM: Brave, Fierce, Outrageous Feminist Person (or Couple)

SEEKING BRAVE, FIERCE, OUTRAGEOUS, FEMINIST PERSON (OR COUPLE) INTERESTED IN LIVING FOR FREE WHILE CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON WOMEN, MOTHERS, FAMILIES, ART, AND MORE AT THE MUSEUM OF MOTHERHOOD IN ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA.

Imagine living for FREE while you conduct research, create art, and/or write about women, mothers, and families. The Museum of Motherhood seeks a very special activist, artist, scholar, community member to live/work/ and manage the Museum of Motherhood for a six to 18 month period beginning immediately.

This full time “residency” includes all rent and utilities. In addition to connecting with interns, managing the space, and the gardens, there are some AirBnB things to take care of, and there will hopefully be some weekly tours of the space by curious travelers.

MOM_Image.jpgIdeally, the individual or couple will incorporate this experience into a larger research, writing, or art project, making use of our extensive library and onsite facility. This could be a PhD paper, book or other endeavor– but, this opportunity is specifically aimed at a partnership that benefits both the residents and the museum.

The resident will act as an emissary and liaison between MOM and the greater community, including arts and academic institutions in the area with the goal of fostering and developing a more permanent relationship between MOM and St. Pete organizations, conducting regular social media reporting, as well as doing meaningful work on personal a project that fits within the scope of MOM’s goals.

This program could run from March/April 2018 – October 1st 2019 with intermittent visits from me, regular contact, support and/or mentoring (I would stay elsewhere), or the experience could be shorter term, depending on the person and their situation.

FINANCIAL BREAKDOWN – NUTS AND BOLTS:

The live-in experience is equivalent to a minimum of $1,500 per mo. ($18,000 per year) or $346 per week, which comes out to $49 per day.

In dollars and cents, that is about 2.45 hours spent on MOM daily (at $20 per hour). The total comes out to 17.5 hours a week of focused attention on MOM.

Here it is spelled out in dollars and cents:

A tour takes about 1 hour

Laundry from the AirBnB takes about 1.5 hours

A blog/social media takes about 1½ hours

An arts meeting in the neighborhood takes 1 hour

Gardening/watering 3 hours

Unexpected house stuff 1.5 hour

Cottage clean up 1 hour 2 x a week

Make sure the house is clean and tidy 1 x per week

That translates approximately:

3 museum tours a week

3 laundries a week

1 blog/tweet/FB/Instagram a week

1 arts/education/ something pro-active in the community a week

Plant watering every other day 1 hour x 3 a week

Something needs attention or breaks and you have to call me 1.5 hours per week

AirBnB x 2 guests a week (if it is more, we will talk) 2 hours

House tidy 1 x per week

This is an unusual opportunity for a unique individual(s) who is a positive artist/educator/feminist pioneer, adventurous, forward-thinking, and completely responsible. This is a live/work/create experiment in a museum setting. The individual actually lives in the Museum of Motherhood in the glorious arts community of Historic Kenwood in St. Petersburg, Fla. There is a full-size private bedroom, one bath, kitchen, back porch, private garden and guest cottage on site.
