Our public gathering and meeting space is surrounded by murals with seating for up to 30 and standing for up to 50. Child friendly with no impediments to roaming, the first mural titled The Art of Experience explores common language that describes the identity and experience of those who birth, adopt, foster, and labor over children as well as those who have lost them, or experienced infertility. We also explore our adult child status. We start this journey with activities embedded in this free and open play space for the public.

At MoM, we celebrate the waves of the American Mothers’ Movement. Incorporating both local herstory as well as taking a long view. From the early 1800s until today, we point out some of the peaks and pits of policy, activism and the arts. Our interactive exhibits include a pregnancy simulator vest, a boob chair – ahem, we mean a food chair. You can write a letter to your mother or call and leave her a message using our phone. Leave a memento: a trinket, a book (inscribed), or an antique (with label) for our permanent collection

MoM’s Escape Womb Experience-Conception

Step through the magic doorway to MoM’s Escape Womb Experience for a fun and informative trip through conception, gestation, and birth. The first of three doorways leads to the conception room: womb, petri dish or surrogate. Here you will learn about the building blocks of human life, the nuances and challenges of pregnancy and the optimal conditions for procreation.

MoM’s Escape Womb Experience-Gestation

Gestation is a medical term and it is calculated based on the pregnant person’s LMP (last menstrual period) and this has important implications for how the length of pregnancy is estimated, both in terms of gestational length and the timing of fetal development. Neonatal outcomes are predicted by access to care, but also how bodies adapt to pregnancy (or not).

Permanent Collection

MoM Collections – The Factory, St Pete, FL

Since 2003, after MoM founder Martha Joy Rose first identified a ‘mother’s art movement’ through her band Housewives On Prozac (1997), the Museum of Motherhood has persevered to collect, disseminate and empower and international mother-made art movement. The MaMaPaLooZa Festival series (2002), evolved to include the formation of the New York Non-Profit; Motherhood Foundation Inc. (2005), and then transition to Florida with the Non-Profit MOM Art Annex (2019). Our permanent collection has grown and evolved, as has our library of collected works. Since those early days, we have proudly pioneered the active development of a body of work inspired by the experiences of the people at the center of the m/other, mothering, and motherhood experience inclusive of all reproductive experiences.
